Subject:Water Leak On Front Floorboard And/Or Blower Motor Inoperative.

Models:2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
2005 Pontiac Pursuit

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Water has been found to be entering the HVAC case through the cowl.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Dealers are to perform the following:

  1. Lower the glove box door.
  2. Remove the pollen filter (possibly wet).
  3. Remove cowl screen and run water down the windshield.
  4. With water running down the windshield look inside the vehicle. (where HEPA filter was removed).
  5. Note any water that enters the body air inlet or drips from the HVAC case.
  6. You might have to turn on the blower motor, and or wipers to get the leak to occur.

If you observe the above condition then you are too install a plastic water deflector (flexible) over the fresh air intake shroud opening. This plastic water deflector will direct the water to the left and right of the opening and prevent it from going into the HVAC case.

This deflector has adhesive on one side (to be stuck to the cowl opening) and make sure when installing that the hole in the deflector is facing down.

The dealers are to order the new plastic deflector (flexible) from GMSPO P/N 15296710. You will have to put a SPAC case on this P/N 15296710 until stock becomes sufficient.

Note: If water is found in the blower motor or the resistor pack then please replace the blower motor and resistor pack also.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
