No XM Band Displayed On U1C Radio or Low Volume - keywords digital display DRR inoperative lock lock no program receiver satellite U2K

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customer may comment the XM Radio band will not display on their U1C radio. A routine diagnostic probe with the Tech 2 will find no DTCs and the dealer is able to communicate with the XM DRR. A small number of Cobalts were built with the U1C (radio) and U2K (XM Radio) options which are NOT compatible.

You will need to replace the U1C radio with a new US8 which you will need to order directly from GMSPO. The US8 radio must be reprogrammed using SPS only. If you just install the US8 radio into the vehicle without SPS programming you will have a low/half volume condition.

Currently you will need to call Techline and get a archived file for programming the US8 radio. This file will become available on the next release of Techline software (CD 9) or on September 5th.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
