Models:2008 Chevrolet Cobalt
2008 Pontiac G5
with 15" Tires (RPO QTU)

Condition

Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:

    • A tire that slowly goes flat
    • The tire pressure light is on
    • The check tire pressure message appears on the DIC
    • Low tire pressure

Cause

This condition may be caused by an air leak around the TPM sensor due to a damaged seal (grommet).

Correction

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  2. Inflate the tire and dip the tire/wheel assembly in a water bath or use a spray bottle with soap and water to locate the specific leak location.
  3. If the TPM is found to have a leak at the retainer nut to wheel interface, proceed with next step.
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly to the tire changer and deflate the tire completely.

  6. Break ONLY the outer bead.
  7. Remove the tire pressure sensor nut and the sensor from the wheel.
  8. Remove the old washer and seal (grommet) from the sensor.
  9. Install the NEW seal (grommet) and washer onto the sensor.
  10. Insert the sensor in the wheel hole with the air passage facing away from the wheel.

  11. Object Number: 65676 Size: SH
  12. Position the sensor body parallel to the inside wheel surface while holding the seal (grommet) in contact with the rim. Install the nut.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the sensor nut to 7N·m(62 lb in).

  14. Install the tire to the wheel and inflate to the proper air pressure. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the tire changer.
  15. Install the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle.

Important: Because the tire was not completely dismounted from the rim, it is NOT necessary to balance the tire and wheel assembly. TPM relearn is also NOT required because the sensor or its location was not changed.
