Subject: | Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM - RPO UJ6) Light Flashing |
Models: | 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt |
2008 Pontiac G5 |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Vehicles without TPM will turn on the TPM telltale during bulb-check and display dashes for tire pressure when a BCM that has the TPM function turned on is installed.
Note: All service BCM's have the TPM function turned on as the default mode. The Tech 2 must be used to set-up the BCM with the TPM function turned off in a non-TPM vehicle. The new Tech 2 software with the non-TPM set-up will not be available until the early March, 2008 release. Before the new Tech 2 software release, a utility file available through TCSC must be used to properly set-up a replacement BCM on a vehicle without TPM.
Some vehicles in Canada and Mexico will not have tire pressure monitoring (TPM). The SPID label will show UJ6 if the vehicle has TPM or no UJ6 if the vehicle doesn't have TPM after the VIN breakpoint of "1G1AK18F687227184". If a BCM is replaced in a non-TPM vehicle, the Tech 2 must be used to correctly set-up the BCM with the TPM function turned off. The service BCM's are only available with the TPM function turned on.
On Mexico and Canada vehicles built after the VIN breakpoint, check the SPID label to verify whether the vehicle is equipped with TPM. Before the early March, 2008 Tech 2 release, when replacing the BCM on vehicles without TPM, call TCSC to get a VCI number and the utility file to set-up the replacement with the correct software (TPM function turned off). After the early March, 2008 Tech 2 release, when replacing the BCM on vehicles without TPM, download the new Tech 2 software to the Tech 2 tool, and use the Tech 2 to set-up the BCM with the TPM function turned off. Note: Make sure the Tech 2 has the latest Tech 2 software loaded into the tool. This option in the BCM can only be set-up once.
Don't perform the Tech 2 set-up (on a replacement BCM) to turn off the TPM function on vehicles equipped with TPM. Check the SPID label, on vehicles built after the VIN breakpoint, to verify if the vehicle is equipped with TPM (RPO UJ6).
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
