Subject: | Engine Oil Leak from Rear of Engine - Inspect Galley Plugs |
Models: | 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt |
| with 2.4L Engine (RPO LE5) |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, an oil leak from the rear of the cylinder head or engine block may be experienced due to a leaking oil galley plug (s). If an oil galley plug on the rear of the engine block is leaking, it may be mistaken for a leaking rear main seal.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If an oil leak is experienced in either of these locations, inspect the related oil galley plugs for a leak. If a leaking plug is found, replace or reseal it as outlined in the related SI procedure below:
Cylinder Head Assemble (for a leaking cylinder head oil galley plug)
Engine Block Assemble (for a leaking engine block oil galley plug)
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
