Subject:2004-2005 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado Multiple Electrical Concerns, IPC Indicators Illuminate Possible No Start

Models:

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

There are possible concerns; Erratic operation of... blower motor, windshield wipers, fog lamps, SIR indicator, cruise control, ABS indicator, battery drain and a possible no start condition. Symptoms may very due to the relay failing to engage or remaining stuck in the closed position applying power even when the ignition is in the off position. There are 2 possible issues that contribute to any of the suspected intermittent failure listed above. Relay 15328864 is used in locations 58, 59, 61 and 62 in the UBEC. Refer to the UBEC cover on the vehicle for the correct relay locations.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Remove the suspected relay. Inspect the UBEC cavity(s) at each position that the relay terminal(s) make contact within the UBEC. If adequate terminal tension is present, replace the relay with 15328864. If terminal tension is not present, replace the UBEC with current SPO stock.

Relay 58 = RAP

Relay 59 = IGN 3

Relay 61 = RUN/CRANK

Relay 62 = START

Note: For an intermittent concern, try to wiggle the relay in its troubled location within the UBEC. This may help identify a terminal concern in the UBEC that may occur only while driving or when traveling over rough roads. Also, the Part number included in this information as of 02/18/05 is the most current at this time. Part number(s) are subject to change.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
