Subject:Intermittent Battery Draw When the Keys are Left in the Ignition

Models:2004-2005 Chevrolet Colorado Pick Up
2004-2005 GMC Canyon Pick Up

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

When parking the vehicle and the key is left in the ignition, a battery draw may occur. This will be noticed only when the door is not completely closed to the primary latch position. If the door was only closed to the secondary latched position, the chime will sound continuously and not allow the radio to time out resulting in a battery draw or dead battery.

Recommendation/Instructions:

When leaving the key in the ignition, it is important to be sure that all doors are closed completely to the primary latch position. Failure to due so will lead to a discharged battery. This is a normal operating characteristic. Making the customer aware of this concern will lead to a resolution.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
