Condition

Some customers may comment that when playing a CD, the radio shows the last track number for about 5 seconds, but there is no audio. The display then changes to "Reading" for about 15 seconds. The radio may then play the CD or eject it with a "Check CD" message.

Cause

This condition may be caused by a software anomaly.

Correction (through Radio Exchange)

Technicians are to replace the radio with an exchange unit. Refer to the Radio Replacement and the Radio Programming and Setup procedures in SI for more information.

Correction (using Software Update CD)

Important: If your dealership still has the 2005 US8 MP3 Radio Software Upgrade CD that was distributed in December 2004, it may still be used to perform the radio software update. Follow the instructions that are included with the CD. The upgrade CD is no longer available and now the radios can only be upgraded through an exchange.

To perform the update using the software update CD, load the CD into the radio and perform the following steps:

  1. Turn the ignition to the ACCY or Run position.
  2. Insert the update CD; observe display of "READING" then "UPDATING." The updating message should be displayed constantly. If it blinks on and off, eject the CD and repeat step 1.
  3. Updating should finish in less than one minute, and automatically eject the CD. If the radio does not eject the CD after one minute, eject the CD and start over at step 1.
  4. The radio will display "UPDATED" when finished. If the radio displays "CHECK CD", the software has not been updated. Please start over at step 1.

Important: Please advise the customer that home-burned CDs must be burned with a "closed session" or the formatting will be incomplete and the player will not read the CD. CDs should NOT have adhesive paper labels affixed to them as the labels may lift off in the player.
