Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
.
- Remove the wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly.
- Disconnect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector from the base of the column.
- Remove the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly lead from the wire harness assembly.
- Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws from the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
- Slide the mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly off of the steering column. Discard the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly if replacing.
Installation Procedure
Important: A new mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly will come precentered with a centering tab attached. Do NOT remove the centering tab until installation is complete. Failure to follow pocedure will cause a misalignment to
the SIR coil and centering will be required.
If reusing the existing mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly, you must center the SIR coil. Refer to centering the SIR coil assembly.
- Slide the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly onto the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws into the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 4.5 N·m(40 lb in).
- Route the wire harness assembly down the steering column.
- Connect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector at the base of the column.
- Install the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly.
- Remove the centering tab from the mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
- Install the steering wheel to the steering column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement

- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
