Subject:2.8 LK5 3.5 L52 Engine - Coolant Tempertature Gauge Drops on Acceleration

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Coolant temperature gauge rapidly drops 20 degrees F on hard acceleration.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the coolant thermostat is partially open, the increase in cooling system pressure caused by the water pump spinning faster will force the partially open valve to open completely. This will cause the IP engine temperture gauge to drop to a lower temperature reading. This usually occurs at the 3,000 RPM threshold. This is a normal condition and no attempt for repairs should be made for this concern.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
