This bulletin is being revised to update the tool part number and bulletin content. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-01-025 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).
One Time Tool Allowance
Some dealers may not be aware that a one time tool allowance for the cost of special tool EN 45680-400 may be claimed. This program was in lieu of packaging the Cylinder Bore Piston Sleeve Replacement tool as essential, since all dealers may not require this process. This tool has been shipped to Tier 1 and Tier 2 dealers in the USA and high volume dealers in Canada. Other dealers who require the tool may order it from Kent Moore.
Important: Replacing the cylinder piston sleeve when possible is always preferred to engine replacement. Replacement of the sleeve(s) is a more cost effective repair for these engines both within the warranty period and after.
To Claim the Tool Allowance:
| • | Please apply for this allowance under warranty code Z2076. You may claim the cost of the tool, minus shipping and taxes. Please enter this figure in the net amount category. |
| • | This claim should be filed with the first use of the tool and "H" routed to the Area Service Manager (DSM in Canada) for approval. As with any net amount claim, supporting documentation must be attached to the repair order.

| • | Any dealer that has received this tool and not used it after a period of five years may return the entire tool to Kent Moore for a refund of the original purchase price not including shipping or taxes. Contact Kent Moore at 1-800-GMTOOLS (1-800-468-6657) or fax 1-800-578-7375 to obtain a return authorization and shipping instructions. |
Important: Due to the inherent durability of these engines, cylinder piston sleeve replacements are infrequent service operations. The above five year return policy was established to benefit small volume dealers or dealers that may have sold just a few vehicles equipped with this engine family (example: low volume stand alone Buick franchise) affording them the proper equipment to do the required repair without assuming the continued cost of the tool.
Important: For High-Volume dealers, please note that maintaining this tool in inventory will be an integral part of engine rebuilding as vehicles with this engine family begin to acquire higher mileages and require rebuilding. Before returning an unused tool, please consider your engine repair/rebuild strategy.
