Subject: | Flutter Type Noise From the Blower |
Models: | 2004-2006 Chevrolet Colorado |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Fluttering type noise with the blower motor on. There are two possible causes.
- Debris (leaves, pine needles, etc) getting into the blower due to large gaps around the wiper arm spindles and at each end of the air inlet panel between the sheet metal, plenum and air inlet panel. A new deflector has been developed and was placed
into production in January 2006 for this concern.
- The metal baffle or shield in the HVAC case may become loose. A way to determine this would be to place HVAC in fresh air mode. The noise will be present in fresh air and the noise will go away in recirculation mode.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Remove debris found in the blower motor fan and in the cowl area were the windshield wiper transmission lies. Once all the debris has been removed, replace the cowl deflector with part number 15246164. This deflector has improved sealing capabilities
around the windshield wiper arm stub shafts to prevent debris from entering the cowl area. If the vehicle in question is a 2006 model, inspect the deflector for this update prior to replacing. This deflector was placed into production is January 2006. The build
date can be verified by the sticker in the drivers door.
- To repair this concern, remove the blower motor and inspect the baffle just above the blower opening in the HVAC case. Tap on the baffle to see if it is loose. If so, secure the 3 screws that hold the baffle in place.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
