SES Light Remains Illuminated When key Is Removed From Ignition - keywords P1682 P2610 engine horn indicator IPC lamp relay service soon switch

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may comment that when removing the key from the ignition the Service Engine Soon (SES) light remains illuminated.

Technicians may find DTC P1682 and P2610 are stored. This may be the result of the Horn Relay in the Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC) installed in the wrong position. The Horn relay is located in position number 55. Next to relay number 55 there are 4 open cavities that are not in use. During service, these open cavities may have been confused with the correct location. The above symptoms were the only ones noted however other symptoms may apply.

If the DTC or symptoms above are experienced, remove the Horn relay and Install the relay in the correct position. Be sure the body of the Horn relay in position 55 lines up with the relay in position number 51. Refer to the electrical center identification view below to ensure the relay is in the correct location.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
