Subject: | SES Light and Reduced Engine Power due to a DTC P0507 - Install Updated PCM Calibrations |
Models: | 2004-2005 Chevrolet Colorado |
2004-2005 GMC Canyon |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
Some Canyon and Colorado Trucks that were manufactured on 11/15/2004 or earlier may experience a SES Light and Reduced Engine Power due to a P0507 DTC. Typically, this will occur as a result of the transmission being placed in a lower gear to induce engine braking while descending a grade, coming to a stop, or "creeping" at low speed with the throttle closed. As a result, the actual engine RPM may exceed the desired engine RPM for an extended period, causing the P0507 may set.
If the SI diagnostics do not isolate the cause, reflash the PCM with the latest TIS2000 calibrations, which are titled "software change to reduce the potential for setting P0507 and improve engine speed control." These calibrations, or any that follow, are designed to address this issue. Trucks manufactured on 11/16/2004 or later, already contain these updated calibrations.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
