2004-2007 GMC Canyon Pick Up

This PI is being updated to include 2006 and 2007 Model Year vehicles. Please discard PIT3332.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Right rear wheel appears to stick out further than the left side. This may be noticed when visually looking at the vehicle from a rear view. This concern may also be noticed more on a vehicle with out rear fender flares. This concern may be apparent on 2wd or 4wd vehicles.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The differential (center section) is offset from the centerline of the vehicle. This is done for propshaft and axle packaging concerns (ie: clearance to fuel tank primarily). The axle tubes and shafts are different in length on each side of the differential. This could make the axle appear to be offset or stick out further on one side of the vehicle compared to the other side. This is an illusion. If one of the wheels appears to stick out further on one side compared to the other, inspect the truck bed and cab for alignment. Adjust as necessary.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
