Subject:Odometer Display May Increase During Vehicle Service

Models:2004-2007 Chevrolet Colorado
2004-2007 GMC Canyon
2006-2007 Hummer H3

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

After calibration or voltage interruption, the odometer display may increase by as much as 16 miles (25.8 Kilometers) after any of the following repairs:

   •

Disconnected battery cables

   •

PCM replacement or reprogramming

   •

BCM replacement or reprogramming

This may also occur if the battery has been discharged and had to be recharged.

If this is going to occur, it may occur immediately, or once the vehicle is moved. In some cases, this may not occur at all. This condition may occur on a vehicle with any odometer readings, but it is more obvious on vehicles with low odometer readings. Once the odometer increase occurs, it will not occur again unless any of the repairs above are performed again.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The cause of this concern is due to an interruption of PCM, BCM, and IPC communication that may occur when performing any of the repairs listed above. This is a normal result of performing the repairs above and there is no known correction for this concern. As a result, no repairs should be performed in an attempt to correct this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
