The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Temperature knob on the HVAC control head may be difficult to rotate.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Compare knob rotation to that of a similar vehicle with an acceptable effort and feel. If comparable, no further action should be taken. If the troubled vehicle is worse, proceed to step two.
  2. Remove the HVAC control head and detach the mode and temperature cables. Rotate the control knobs to check for binding or jumped/broken gear/teeth. If no binding or jumped/broken gear/teeth found, then proceed to step (3) leaving the cables disconnected, otherwise replace control head then proceed to step (3).
  3. Inspect the temperature door cable. Make sure it is routed correctly with no kinks in the cable. Check comparison vehicle cable routing if necessary. If the cable binds due to kinks, then replace the cable.
  4. If the cable is routed correctly and does not bind, remove the cable from the temperature door linkage at the HVAC case. Manually move the temperature door to make sure that it does not bind
  5. If the temperature door is in a bind or hard to move, it will be necessary to R/R the HVAC case to rectify binding condition.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
