Supplement To Bulletin 06-06-01-017C - User Tips For EN48464 - keywords camshaft CKP CMP cover crankshaft cylinder DTC en48464 en-48464 front gear head installation left P0017 PCM position removal

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Carefully follow the repair instructions outlined in 06-06-01-17C to properly use the Lower Timing Gear Tensioner Holding Tool (EN48464). Failure to properly insert and secure the holding tool as instructed in the bulletin may result in a ratchet out movement of the timing chain tensioner and the need to perform additional repair steps not covered by the warranty repair time.

Following are some tips for proper tool usage:

1. Thoroughly review 06-06-01-017C before the cylinder head replacement process is started.
2. Review the June 2006 emerging issues broadcast, which contains a video of that highlights the procedure for a 3.5L L52 5 Cylinder Engine. An archived copy of this seminar can be viewed by visiting www.gmtraining.com. 3. Before using the tool, make sure that the tool handle and threaded rod unscrew from the wedge as shown below.



4. If the tool handle unscrews from the threaded rod, leaving the threaded rod screwed into the wedge as shown below, apply thread locker to the threads of the tool handle and screw it onto the threaded rod to prevent it from coming off in the future. This should be done before replacing the cylinder head by following 06-06-01-017C.



5. When inserting the wedge, ensure that it is installed in the correct direction as shown below.



6. Bulletin 06-06-01-017C advises that the wedge should be lightly seated using a couple of very light taps with a small plastic or brass hammer. Although these should be light taps, they should also be solid taps to ensure that the wedge is seated properly.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
