The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A brief engine miss may be experienced if the transmission is shifted into reverse and then accelerated when the vehicle is still moving in a forward direction or during a hard acceleration. If monitored with a Tech 2, it may be noted that a few engine misfires are present on cylinder 1 during the concern. It may also be noted that other vehicles in new car inventory exhibit the same concern. This is the result of a torque limiting feature to prevent transmission damage.

If there are no DTCs stored and this is the only time that an engine misfire occurs, it is suggested to come to a complete stop before changing transmission gears and accelerating and or not accelerating as hard. The transmission should never be shifted into reverse while the vehicle is moving forward or into drive while the vehicle is moving backwards.

As stated in the owner's manual - Shifting to REVERSE (R) while your vehicle is moving forward could damage the transmission. The repairs would not be covered by your warranty. Shift to REVERSE (R) only after your vehicle is stopped.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
