WASHER PUMP REPAIR/REPLACEMENT 87-88 LB(NON-PULSE WIPER ONLY)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-88 CORSICA AND TEMPEST WITH STANDARD (NON-PULSE) WIPERS

Condition: Repeated or prolonged attempts to operate the washer pump under certain conditions (washer bottle dry, washer fluid frozen, etc.), can result in a high inductive current through the washer switch. This may cause the switch contacts to stick, applying constant current to the pump, which may result in damage or failure of the pump.

The switch was redesigned in July of 1987, to be more tolerant of high current and reduce potential for sticking. The new switch was incorporated into all vehicles built after August.

* Correction: If it is necessary to replace an inoperative washer pump on vehicles built before VIN-s JY901207 (Tempest) and JY522263 (Corsica) , the switch should also be replaced. The new switch part number is 10094628.

Warranty Information: Use existing labour operations.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
