Condition
Owners of 1985 through early 1990 J-cars and 1988 through early 1990 L-cars equipped with 2.8L or 3.1L V6 engines with automatic transmission may notice a rattling or clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. This noise is more apparent when the engine is cold and usually goes away as the engine warm up.
The above noise may be due to the torque converter shield. This warped shield may interfere with the flywheel.
A torque converter shield currently used on the W car has been released for use on the 2.8L and 3.1L 'J' and 'L' car. Refer to figures shown.

Replace cover, use three of the existing bolts removed from the vehicle.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
