HOT TEMP. OR POOR A/C PERFORM. REPAIR WIRING/INSTALL CONDUIT

SUBJECT: ENGINE OVERHEATING OR POOR A/C PERFORMANCE (REPAIR WIRING AND INSTALL PROTECTIVE CONDUIT)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-91 CHEVROLET CORSICA, BERETTA, AND PONTIAC TEMPEST

Condition:

--------- Engine cooling fan inoperative, which may result in engine overheating or poor A/C performance (if equipped).

Cause:

----- Engine cooling fan wiring leads may rub against the transaxle case between the point of "breaking out" of the main engine harness and the fan connector.

Correction:

---------- Repair wiring and install a protective plastic conduit to insulate the wiring from direct contact on the transaxle case Refer to attached Illustration). Use the following procedure:

1. Disconnect engine cooling fan wiring leads.

2. Repair wiring as required. Refer to Section 8A of the applicable Service Manual for proper wiring repair.

3. Obtain a length of approximately 225 mm (9 inches) of 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) diameter plastic conduit, P/N 8919354 (or equivalent). Install over the cooling fan wiring, starting at the "break out point" of the cooling fan wiring, and run towards the cooling fan.

4. Using common "black" tape (locally obtained part), tape both ends of the conduit to the wires, then tape the entire length of the conduit.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use: 0.4 Hrs.
