NO A/C COOLING DUE TO LOSS OF REFRIGERANT

SUBJECT: NO A/C COOLING DUE TO LOSS OF REFRIGERANT (REPLACE EVAPORATOR AND EVAPORATOR OUTLET TUBE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992-93 "L" SERIES

CONDITION:

--------- Loss of A/C cooling due to a refrigerant leak at the evaporator outlet. If leaks are encountered in the compressor condenser hose, refer to Corporate bulletin 231213R.

CAUSE:

----- Engine vibration and roll may cause stress on the evaporator eventually causing the evaporator outlet to crack resulting in the loss of the refrigerant charge.

CORRECTION:

---------- To correct this condition, a new evaporator should be installed as well as a new evaporator outlet tube. The new evaporator outlet tube is now equipped with a bracket that will need to be fastened to the front of dash. This new bracket will provide the strength necessary for the evaporator to withstand engine vibration and roll.

There is a service replacement kit, P/N 12355668, that includes a new evaporator, evaporator outlet tube and bracket, and a self drilling screw used to attach the bracket to the front of dash. To replace the evaporator, follow the procedure outlined in SECTION 1B of the appropriate service manual. To replace the evaporator outlet tube and bracket assembly, perform the following procedure.

1. Recover any refrigerant remaining in the air conditioning system.

2. Raise vehicle.

3. Remove evaporator outlet tube fitting at evaporator outlet.

4. Remove the old evaporator outlet tube.

5. Install the new evaporator outlet tube lubricating new 'O' rings) making sure that the bracket fits properly under the lip on the front of dash. (Refer to Figure 1)

6. Install the self drilling screw through the bottom side of the bracket. (This can be done by using a 1/4" extension in a 1/2" drill.)

7. Lower vehicle.

8. Evacuate and recharge A/C system.

9. Leak test.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use:
