RATTLE OR ITCH BETWEEN DEFROSTER GRILLE

SUBJECT: RATTLE OR ITCH BETWEEN DEFROSTER GRILLE AND INSTRUMENT PANEL (PLACE BUTYL BETWEEN DEFROSTER GRILLE AND I/P)

MODELS: 1993-96 CHEVROLET BERETTA, CORSICA

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE DEFROSTER GRILLE MAY RATTLE OR ITCH AGAINST THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.

CAUSE:

CLOSE TOLERANCES WITHOUT ENOUGH RETAINING FORCE MAY BE ALLOWING MOVEMENT OF THE DEFROSTER GRILLE CAUSING AN ITCH OR RATTLE.

CORRECTION:

PLACE TWO PIECES OF BUTYL BETWEEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND DEFROSTER GRILLE, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE AIR VENT AS INDICATED IN FIGURE 1.

LEFT SIDE: PLACE BUTYL 15MM (19/32") RIGHT OF THE VIN PLATE AND 10MM (13/32") REARWARD OF THE WINDSHIELD.

RIGHT SIDE: PLACE BUTYL 70MM (2 3/4") RIGHT OF THE INBOARD RETAINING CLIP AND 10MM (13/32") REARWARD OF THE WINDSHIELD.

PROCEDURE:

1. REMOVE DEFROSTER GRILLE WITH A BLUNT TOOL TO ELIMINATE DAMAGE TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (BEGIN REMOVAL FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL).

2. INSTALL BUTYL (REFER TO FIGURE 1 AND ABOVE TEXT FOR PROPER POSITIONING).

3. INSTALL DEFROSTER GRILLE (BEGIN INSTALLATION FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL).

IMPORTANT: WHEN REMOVING A DEFROSTER GRILLE WITH BUTYL IN PLACE, TAKE CARE NOT TO GET THE BUTYL ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TOPPER PAD.
