1981 Corvettes produced at the new GMAD facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky (Vin code 5, SOP May 1981) feature a new acrylic enamel color coat. For the 1982 model, all Corvettes will be produced at Bowling Green, and therefore, will continue to receive enamel application. The urethane front and rear facias will continue to receive flexible (elastomeric) paint as was formerly used.
The following chart illustrates 1981-82 exterior color selection. The metallics feature the base coat/clear coat concept described in C.D.S.I.B. 80-I-68, July, 1980.

Conventional acrylic lacquer materials can be used to repair the acrylic enamel finish. The repair must cover either the complete panel or to a feature line that provides an acceptable breakpoint. Spot repair is not acceptable. The following procedure is identical to tha provided in 80-I-68.
Recommended Procedure (Follow manufacturer's label directions for reduction, application, and drying time).
1. Clean complete panel with paint finish cleaning solvent.
2. Thoroughly scuff-sand with wet or dry #400 sandpaper and reclean.
3. Apply adhesion promoting sealer to all surfaces at recommended film thickness.
4. Spray acrylic base coat (if metallic) and allow to flash. Then apply topcoat (clear if metallic) for proper appearance and color match. Allow to dry thoroughly.
5. Rub out and polish.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
