REAR SPINDLE SNAPPING NOISE INFORMATION

Some 1984 Corvettes assembled prior to February 16, 1983, VIN breakpoint E5100604, may exhibit a snapping type nolse from the rear spindle area during torque reversals or brake torquing. This noise may be coming from between the rear spindle and unit bearing.

To correct this condition, a change was initiated that incorporated the addition of a special lubricated washer assembled between the spindle yoke and bearing assemble.

Vehicles exhibiting this condition can be corrected by installation of these special washers, P/N 14076924, that are currently available from WDDGM (see illustration below).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
