BOSE RADIO NOISE CAUSED BY SWITCHES/INSTALL CAPACITORS

Model and Year: 1983-87 CORVETTE WITH BOSE RADIO SYSTEM

Some 1983-87 Corvettes with the Bose radio option may have a "popping" noise heard through the speakers when certain switches are activated. Switches that can cause this noise are the brake switch, power window switch, power seat switch, etc.

The proper procedures to use to eliminate switch "pops" are as follows:

BRAKE SWITCH

- Install a .47 MFD 200V capacitor (P/N 1227894 or equivalent) at the switch between the orange B+ power lead and ground.

- For 1983-86 vehicles install a second .47 MFD 200V capacitor between the orange B+ lead and the white lead.

- For 1987 vehicles, install a third .47 MFD 200V capacitor between the orange B+ lead and the light blue lead.

The capacitors should be soldered and taped into the wiring harness as close to the brake switch as possible.

OTHER SWITCHES

- Install a .47 MFD 200V capacitor (P/N 1227894 or equivalent) between the B+ power feed wire and ground at the wiring harness connector.

If any other noise conditions are encountered that cannot be resolved using the diagnostics in the service manual or Delco Sound Manual, call Dial Delco on 1-800-428-0501 (Indiana dealers 1-800-382-0531) . Use Labor Operation R0710 for adding capacitors.
