SOME 1984 AND EARLY PRODUCTION 1985 CORVETTE DOOR AJAR SWITCHES (P/N 14062556) MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE DUE TO INTERNAL CORROSION. THIS CAUSES THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO EITHER BECOME INOPERATIVE, FLICKER, OR STAY ON. A NEW CORROSION RESISTANT SWITCH (P/N 14087681) AND AN ASSOCIATED RETAINER (P/N 14087682) ARE TO BE USED AS SERVICE REPLACEMENTS. THE NEW SWITCH INCLUDES A SLEEVE (SEE ILLUSTRATION) THAT FITS TIGHTLY AROUND THE SWITCH'S HOUSING AND HAS SUFFICIENT LENGTH TO COVER THE WIRE CONNECTOR ONCE CONNECTION TO THE DOOR HARNESS IS MADE. WHEN REPLACING THE EXISTING SWITCH WITH A NEW 14087681 SWITCH, THE DOOR INSERT HOLE WILL NEED TO BE ENLARGED FROM 16MM TO 18MM TO ACCOMMODATE THE SLEEVE PROVISION. CARE MUST BE EXERCISED WHEN ENLARGING THE INSERT HOLE SO THAT ADJOINING MOUNTING HOLES ARE NOT ALTERED. SCRATCHES, CHIPS, ETC., TO DOOR PANEL SURFACE RESULTING FROM THE HOLE ENLARGING PROCESS ARE TO BE COSMETICALLY REPAIRED AS OUTLINED IN SECTION 10 (BODY) OF THE CORVETTE SHOP MANUAL.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
