LEAKING RADIATOR HOSE SERVICE (REPLACEMENT OF RADIATOR HOSE)

SUBJECT: LEAKING RADIATOR HOSE SERVICE KIT (REPLACEMENT OF RADIATOR HOSE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 CHEVROLET CORVETTE W/5.7L (VIN J)

Condition:

Some of the above vehicles, prior to VIN L5800913, may exhibit coolant leaks at the radiator hose attachments.

Cause:

This leak condition is caused by a torque loss of the radiator hose clamp (screw worm drive type), combined with the permanent set characteristics of the radiator hose material, in cold weather ambiences of -6 "C" (twenty (20) "F") and lower.

Correction:

If one or more of the radiator hoses are leaking, all the radiator hoses should be replaced with a new Service Kit, P/N #10157951. This kit includes six (6) new radiator hoses and twelve (12) new spring type hose clamps.

Use the Service Manual procedures for the removal and replacement of radiator hoses.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
