WIRING HARNESS RUBS CONV. TOP WHEN FOLDED (RE-ROUTE HARNESS)

SUBJECT: WIRING HARNESS RUBS AGAINST FOLDED CONVERTIBLE TOP

MODEL and YEAR 1992 CORVETTE

Application: 1992 Chevrolet Corvette convertible after VIN #110212.

CONDITION:

---------- Wiring harness rubs against folded convertible top and can wear fabric of top as stowage lid is closed.

CAUSE:

------ Wiring harness routing contacts folded convertible top.

CORRECTION:

----------- Re-route wiring harness from side to top of hinge on right hand stowage lid hinge.

1. Raise number five bow to vertical position.

2. Release and raise stowage lid to vertical position.

3. Prop number five bow in vertical position.

4. Note hole "A" in Figure 1. Remove wiring harness retaining clip from hole "A". Cut off retention tip from retaining clip and tape over the clip, with black electrical tape or equivalent. In some cases the entire retaining clip can be easily accessed and completely removed, eliminating the need to use any tape.

5. Measure 75 mm (3 in.) forward of hole "A" on the hinge arm and tape the wiring harness to the top side of the hinge arm. Use black electrical tape, cloth tape, or equivalent.

IMPORTANT: A good attachment of the wiring harness to the hinge arm, in Step 5 above, is necessary to ensure that the harness does not move along the hinge arm.

6. Measure 89 mm (3.5 in.) rearward of hole "A" on the hinge arm and strap the wiring harness to the hinge arm. Use tie strap or equivalent.

7. Remove prop and lower number five bow. Lower the side door glass.

8. Lower top to stowed position.

9. Slowly close stowage lid and check to see that the wiring harness does not rub against the convertible top. Correct routing if necessary.

10. Raise and latch top.
