READING THE I/P CLUSTER GAUGES INFO ON DIGITAL/ANALOG READING

Subject: READING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER GAUGES

Model and Year: 1992 CORVETTE -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 1992 Y Car has analog gauges in the instrument cluster, as well as digital gauge readouts for oil temperature, coolant temperature, and battery voltage by pressing the "GAUGES" button.

The analog gauges in the cluster are not intended to be highly accurate gauges. The scales of these gauges are not linear, which means that the hash marks in the middle of the two temperature gauges are not half way between the end markings. For example, the end markings for the coolant temperature gauge are 100 and 260 degrees. A reading in the middle might be expected to be 180 degrees, but it is actually 200 degrees. Similarly, the middle reading for the oil temperature gauge for the LT1 engine is actually 250 degrees, not 21 0.

The analog gauges should be used to provide a quick visual indication that the vehicle is operating in normal ranges. If a need arises for more accurate readings, the digital readouts using the "GAUGES" button can be used.

No attempt should be made to "correct" the analog gauge readings to agree with the digital readings.

This information is included in the Owner's Manual and the Owner's Video included with the vehicle.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
