HAMMER/RATTLE NOISE PASS. COMP (RPL. FUEL LINE RETAIN CLIPS)

SUBJECT: HAMMER/RATTLE NOISE IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT (REPLACE FUEL LINE RETAINING CLIPS, STUD AND NUT)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 -Y- MODEL WITH 5.7L ENGINE (VIN P, RPO LT1)

CONDITION:

--------- Some 1992 Y-cars with 5.7L V-8 engines (RPO LT1) and assembled prior to VIN N5115323, may exhibit a light hammering/rattle type noise audible in the vehicle passenger compartment.

CAUSE:

----- Pressure pulsation's in the fuel system generated by fuel injector operation causing hydraulic hammering in chassis fuel pipes.

CORRECTION:

---------- Replace existing retaining clips, stud and nut securing fuel feed and return pipes to the air conditioning evaporator and blower motor module assembly with new parts indicated below and installed as shown in attached illustration.

Torque Specifications:

Stud to module: 2.5 N.m + or - 0.5 Nut to stud: 4.5 N.m + or - 1.0
