THE NEW OBDII (ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS II) SYSTEM HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON ALL 1994 CORVETTES EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.7L (LT1) ENGINE, AND WILL BE EXPANDED TO ALL GM VEHICLES BY 1996. THE GENERAL MOTORS POWERTRAIN GROUP IS ASKING FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE TO HELP INSURE THAT THIS NEW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PROVIDES A HIGH DEGREE OF TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND ACCURACY REQUIRED TO SERVICE/REPAIR GM VEHICLES.
A 1-800 TELEPHONE NUMBER HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BY GM POWERTRAIN TO BE USED FOR SERVICE ASSISTANCE, AS WELL AS REPAIR FEEDBACK. THIS 1-800 NUMBER IS 1-800-FIX-OBD2 OR 1-800-349-6232 AND WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE TECH 1 SCAN TOOL WHENEVER A NEW OBDII TROUBLE CODE IS READ.
VEHICLES SHOULD BE SERVICED/REPAIRED PER INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. IF THE SERVICE PROCEDURE CANNOT BE FOLLOWED OR DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, GM POWERTRAIN ASSISTANCE CAN BE OBTAINED BY CALLING THE NEW 1-800 NUMBER.
WHEN A REPAIR HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED, THE 1-800 NUMBER SHOULD ALSO BE CALLED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE 1-800 TECHNICAL OPERATOR WILL INTERVIEW THE SERVICING TECHNICIAN TO IDENTIFY SUCH CONCERNS AS SERVICE MANUAL DIAGNOSTIC FLOW CHARTS, WHAT CODE WAS SET, WHAT REPAIR FIXED THE PROBLEM, ETC.
TO HELP MAKE THIS PROGRAM SUCCESSFUL, DEALERS WILL BE COMPENSATED FOR THE EXTRA EFFORT AND TIME SPENT AS EXPLAINED IN THIS LETTER. THESE REIMBURSEMENTS ARE IN ADDITION TO THE NORMAL WARRANTY COMPENSATIONS FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR.
FOR EVERY 1-800 CALL MADE (MAXIMUM ONE CALL PER VEHICLE SERVICED) DEALERS WILL BE REIMBURSED 0.3 HOURS. THE 1-800 TECHNICAL OPERATOR MAY REQUEST THE RETURN OF A PART(S) REPLACED DURING THE REPAIR. IN THESE INSTANCES, IN ADDITION TO THE 0.3 HOURS TELEPHONE REIMBURSEMENT, .2 HOURS SHOULD BE ADDED FOR EACH PART RETURNED, ALONG WITH THE ACTUAL FREIGHT CHARGES INCURRED TO RETURN THE PART(S).
SUBMIT NORMAL CORPORATE PARTS RETURN CLAIM USING SOURCE CODE "51", LABOR OPERATION Z7200 AND THE APPROPRIATE TOTAL AMOUNTS. ACTUAL SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR CLAIMS PREPARATION MANUAL.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER." THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
