Disassembly Procedure

Tools Required

J 8062 Valve Spring Compressor


    Object Number: 34468  Size: SH
  1. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head.
  2. Use J 8062 in order to compress the valve springs.

  3. Object Number: 35216  Size: SH
  4. Remove the valve stem keys.
  5. Remove the cap from the valve.
  6. Remove the valve spring.
  7. Remove the valve stem oil seal.
  8. Remove the valve.
  9. Place the valves in a rack in the proper sequence so that the you can install them in the same order.

  10. Remove the shim.

    Object Number: 11519  Size: SH
  1. Install the shim to the cylinder head.
  2. Install the valve into the proper port.
  3. Lubricate guide and oil seal with clean engine oil.
  4. Install the valve stem oil seal onto the guide.
  5. Slightly seat the seal against the cylinder head and the shim.

  6. Install the valve spring.
  7. Install the cap on the valve stem.

  9. Use the J 8062 in order to compress the valve spring.
  10. Install the valve stem keys.
  11. 8.1. Use grease to hold the keys in place while disconnecting the J 8062 .
    8.2. Make sure that the keys seat properly in the upper groove of the valve stem.
    8.3. Tap the end of the stem with a plastic-faced hammer in order to seat the keys if necessary.
  12. Measure the valve spring installed height from the valve spring seat to the locating surface on the cap.
  13. • Install the valve spring seat shim approximately 1.6 mm (0.0625 in) if the height exceeds 46.2 mm (1.82 in) thick.
    • Do not shim the valve spring to obtain a less than specified installation height.
