Positive Battery Cable Removal

  1. Remove the left front fender. Refer to Section 10-5.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  4. Remove the positive battery cable from the fuse block PCM connection.
  5. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor (1).

Positive Battery Cable Installation

  1. Install the positive battery cable on the starter motor (1).
  2. Install the positive battery cable to starter motor nut.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable to starter motor nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the positive battery cable on the fuse block PCM connection.
  5. Connect the positive battery cable.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Install the left front fender. Refer to Section 10-5.

Negative Battery Cable Removal

    Caution: Batteries generate hydrogen gas, which is extremely flammable and may explode violently if ignited by a spark or a flame. Battery acid is extremely corrosive and causes severe personal injury if the acid comes into contact with the skin, and blindness if the acid comes into contact with the eyes. In order to avoid severe personal injury, use extreme caution when servicing the battery or battery-related components.

  1. Remove the left front fender. Refer to Section 10-5.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  3. Remove the battey tray. Refer to Battery Tray .
  4. Remove the ground strap from the left frame rail.
  5. Remove the negative battery cable from the engine block:
  6. 5.1. Remove the bolt.
    5.2. Remove the washer.
    5.3. Remove the cable.
  7. Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.

Negative Battery Cable Installation

  2. Install the negative battery cable to engine block bolt.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to engine block bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  4. Install the ground strap to the left frame rail.
  5. Install the ground strap to left frame rail bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the ground strap to left frame rail bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Install the left front fender. Refer to Section 10-5.
