Connect the ohmmeter to the slip ring and a clean metal grounding surface on the frame of the rotor to check for grounds.

Does the ohmmeter read infinity?

Connect the ohmmeter to both slip rings to check for opens and shorts.

Does the ohmmeter read within the given specifications?

1.7-2.1 ohms

Replace the rotor. Refer to Generator Disassemble .

Connect the ohmmeter to the stator terminal and to a clean metal ground on the laminations to check for continuity. Is there continuity?

Continuity

  1. Connect the ohmmeter to the grounded heat sink and each of the flat metal clips at the rectifier bridge terminals.
  2. Reverse the leads.

One reading should be high (open) and one low (continuity). Are the readings the same?

One high/one low

  1. Connect the ohmmeter to the insulated heat sink and each of the flat metal clips at the rectifier bridge terminals.
  2. Reverse the leads.

Are the readings the same?

One high/one low

Replace the rectifier bridge. Refer to Generator Disassemble .

Is the repair complete?
