Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Remove the fuel rail cover.

  4. Object Number: 11449  Size: SH
  5. Remove the crankcase vent hose.
  6. Remove the fuel rail cover studs.
  7. Move the wiring harness aside.

  8. Object Number: 22755  Size: SH
  9. Remove the secondary air injection check valve pipe from the exhaust manifold.

  10. Object Number: 11480  Size: SH
  11. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  12. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
  13. Remove the gasket.
  14. Clean the valve rocker arm cover and the cylinder head gasket surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 11480  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover and bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the secondary air injection pipe and check valves.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the secondary air injection pipe fitting-to-exhaust manifold to 55 N·m (14 lb ft).
        • Tighten the secondary air injection pipe flange bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  6. Install the crankcase vent hose.
  7. Install the fuel rail cover studs and wiring harness clips to the intake manifold.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel rail cover studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Install the fuel rail covers.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  3. Remove the fuel rail cover.
  4. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
  5. Disconnect the distributor vent hose from the intake manifold.
  6. Remove the fuel rail cover attaching studs.

  7. Object Number: 22755  Size: SH
  8. Remove the secondary air injection diverter valve hose from the check valve.
  9. Loosen the secondary air injection check valve tube at the exhaust manifold. Pivot the check valve away from the valve rocker cover.
  10. Remove the air intake duct.
  11. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  12. Remove the generator bracket bolts and brace. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Remove the generator bolts and lay the generator aside. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  16. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
  17. Remove the gasket.
  18. Clean the valve rocker arm cover and the cylinder head gasket surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 11480  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover.
  3. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Install the generator and bolts. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  6. Install the generator bracket and bolts. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  7. Object Number: 22755  Size: SH
  8. Install the secondary air injection check valve to the exhaust manifold.
  9. Align and tighten the pipe.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the secondary air injection pipe fitting-to-exhaust manifold to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  11. Connect the secondary air injection check valve hoses to the check valve.
  12. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.
  13. Connect the distributor vent hose to the intake manifold.
  14. Install the fuel rail cover studs and wiring harness clips to the intake manifold.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel rail cover studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  16. Install the fuel rail cover.
  17. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  18. Install the air intake duct.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
