Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
  3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.

  4. Object Number: 12086  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor assembly.

  6. Object Number: 12087  Size: SH
  7. Remove the following parts:
  8. 5.1. The retainer bolt
    5.2. The vehicle speed sensor retainer
    5.3. The spacer

  9. Remove the vehicle speed sensor.

  10. Object Number: 12089  Size: SH
  11. Remove the teflon O-ring seal and the speedometer driven gear from the vehicle speed sensor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12089  Size: SH
  1. Install the following parts on the vehicle speed sensor:
  2. 1.1. The speedometer driven gear
    1.2. A new teflon O-ring

  3. Install the vehicle speed sensor.

  4. Object Number: 12087  Size: SH
  5. Install the following parts:
  6. 3.1. The spacer
    3.2. The vehicle speed sensor retainer
    3.3. The retainer bolt

    Tighten
    The retainer bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the electrical connector on the vehicle speed sensor assembly.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable assembly to the battery terminal. Refer to

  11. Tighten
    The terminal bolt to 15 N·m 11 lb ft).
