Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the LH I/P lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.

  4. Remove the cruise control switch at the clutch pedal.

  6. Remove the electrical connector from the clutch pedal position switch.

  8. Remove the retaining clip from the clutch pedal assembly.

  10. Remove the clutch master cylinder retaining bolts.

  12. Remove the clutch pedal assembly windshield reinforcement bolts.
  13. Remove the clutch pedal assembly.
  14. Remove the shims.

  16. Remove the clutch pedal position switch from the clutch pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Lubricate the clutch pedal assembly bushing prior to installation.

  1. Install the clutch pedal assembly to the dash panel and the windshield reinforcement.
  2. Finger tighten all of the clutch pedal assembly retaining bolts.
  3. Measure the gap between the clutch pedal assembly and the windshield reinforcement. Add shims according to the following list:
  4. • If the gap measures 0-1 mm (0-0.039 in), Do not install shims.
    • If the gap measures 1.1-3.0 mm (0.043-0.118 in), Install 1 shim.
    • If the gap measures 3.1-4.0 mm (0.122-0.157 in), Install 2 shims.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the clutch pedal position switch.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4.8 N·m (42 lb in).

  7. Install the clutch master cylinder and the retaining bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install the clutch master cylinder pushrod and the retaining clip.

  10. Object Number: 14292  Size: SH
  11. Install the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector.

  12. Object Number: 14295  Size: SH
  13. Hold the clutch pedal fully rearward.
  14. Install the cruise control switch and push forward until it stops. The "click" sound will stop when the switch is in position.
  15. Install the LH I/P lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
