Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
  2. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
  3. Remove the speed sensor electrical connector.

  4. Object Number: 13368  Size: SH
  5. Remove the speed sensor bolt.

  6. Object Number: 13369  Size: SH
  7. Remove the speed sensor and the O-ring seal. Use a suitable container in order to catch the transmission fluid.
  8. Remove the complete exhaust system. Refer to General Exhaust System Replacement .
  9. Remove the driveline support. Refer to Section 4A.
  10. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Section 4A.

  11. Object Number: 29501  Size: SH
  12. Remove the bolts mounting the case extension to the case.
  13. Remove the case extension and the seal.

  14. Object Number: 32051  Size: SH
  15. Remove the output shaft sleeve and the seal (if replacing).

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 21426 Output Shaft Sleeve Installer


    Object Number: 32051  Size: SH
  1. Install a new seal into the groove on the output shaft sleeve (if replacing).
  2. Important: Do not push the sleeve past the machined surface on the output shaft.

  3. Install the output shaft sleeve and the seal. Use J 21426 .

  4. Object Number: 29501  Size: SH
  5. Install the new seal to the case extension.
  6. Install the case extension and the seal to the transmission.
  7. Install the case extension mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the speed sensor with a new O-ring seal.

  10. Object Number: 13368  Size: SH
  11. Install the speed sensor bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  13. Install the speed sensor electrical connector.
  14. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Section 4A.
  15. Install the driveline support. Refer to Section 4A.
  16. Install the complete exhaust system. Refer to General Exhaust System Replacement .
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Refill the transmission fluid as required. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
