Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
  2. Support the vehicle with safety stands.

  3. Object Number: 13673  Size: SH
  4. Remove the shift control cable at the transmission.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  7. Remove the left side lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  8. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Section 9J. Refer to

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  9. Remove the console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  10. Remove the center air outlet. Refer to Section 8C.
  11. Remove the accessory trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  13. Remove the left and right side seats. Refer to Section 10-10.
  14. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  15. Remove the left side console trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  16. Remove the left side knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.

  18. Remove the left inflatable restraint bracket.
  19. Remove the knee bolster inner bracket.
  20. Remove the right side console trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  21. Remove the radio control. Refer to Section 8C.
  22. Remove the power window control module. Refer to Section 8C.

  24. Remove the arming sensor bracket of the inflatable restraint and lay aside.

  25. Object Number: 13675  Size: SH
  26. Remove the shift control cable at the automatic transmission floor shift control.

  27. Object Number: 13678  Size: SH
  28. Remove the shift control cable at the bracket.

  29. Object Number: 13680  Size: SH
  30. Remove the grommet screws.
  31. Remove the shift control cable through the floor pan.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 13680  Size: SH
  1. Install the shift control cable through the floor pan.

  2. Object Number: 13678  Size: SH
  3. Install the shift control cable to the bracket.

  4. Object Number: 13675  Size: SH
  5. Install the shift control cable to the automatic transmission floor shift control.

  6. Object Number: 13680  Size: SH
  7. Install the grommet screws.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.7 N·m (15 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the inflatable restraint arming sensor bracket.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the sensor bracket screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  11. Install the power window control module. Refer to Section 8C.
  12. Install the radio control. Refer to Section 8C.
  13. Install the right side trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  14. Install the left side knee bolster inner bracket.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the knee bolster inner bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the left side inflatable restraint bracket.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the inflatable restraint bracket nuts and bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  18. Install the knee bolster outer bracket.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the knee bolster outer bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  20. Install the left side console trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22. Install the right and left side seats. Refer to Section 10-10.
  23. Install the accessory trim plate and the center air outlet. Refer to Section 8C.
  24. Install the console trim plate and the electrical connector. Refer to Section 8C.
  25. Install the left side knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.
  26. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Section 9J.
  27. Install the left side lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  28. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
  29. Support the vehicle with safety stands.

  30. Object Number: 13673  Size: SH
  31. Install the shift control cable to the transmission. Hand tighten only.
  32. Adjust the shift control cable. Complete the following steps:
  33. 23.1. Lower the vehicle.
    23.2. Place the control lever in N (Neutral).
    23.3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
    23.4. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
    23.5. Loosen the cable at the shift lever.

            Important: Ensure that the lever is out of the P (Park) position when you tighten the nut.

    23.6. Rotate the shift lever clockwise to the park detent, and then back to neutral.

    Tighten
    Tighten the cable attachment to the transmission to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  34. Lower the vehicle.
  35. Check the cable adjustment. Rotate the control lever through the detents.
  36. Turn the ignition switch to run. Check for 7-9 flashes of the INFL restraint lamp.
