Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the left side lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Section 9J. Refer to

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  4. Remove the console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  5. Remove the center air outlet. Refer to Section 8C.
  6. Remove the accessory trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  7. Remove the left and right side seats. Refer to Section 10-10.
  8. Remove the left side trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  9. Remove the driver side knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.

  11. Remove the left side inflatable restraint bracket.
  12. Remove the left side knee bolster inner bracket. Refer to Section 8C.
  13. Remove the right side console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  14. Remove the console. Refer to Section 8C.

  16. Remove the park/lock control cable at the shifter.

  17. Object Number: 13786  Size: SH
  18. Remove the park/lock control cable at the bracket.

  20. Remove the steering column lower support bracket.

  22. Remove the park/lock control cable at the steering column.

  24. Remove the park/lock cable clip screw from the dash panel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 13869  Size: SH
  1. Ensure that the lock button is in the up position and the shift lever is in the P (Park) position. Snap the cable connector into the backdrive pin.

  2. Object Number: 13788  Size: SH
  3. Install the steering column lower support bracket.
  4. Install the console. Refer to Section 8C.

  6. Install the park/lock cable to the shifter bracket.

  7. Object Number: 13733  Size: SH
  8. Install the park/lock cable to the shifter.

  9. Object Number: 13872  Size: SH
  10. Install the park/lock cable clip screw to the dash panel.
  11. Install the right side console trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.

  12. Object Number: 13682  Size: SH
  13. Install the left side inflatable restraint bracket.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket to 10  N·m (89 lb in.).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  15. Install the left side knee bolster inner bracket. Refer to Section 8C.
  16. Install the left side knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.
  17. Install the left side console panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  18. Install the right and left side seats. Refer to Section 10-10.
  19. Install the accessory trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  20. Install the center air outlet. Refer to Section 8C.
  21. Install the console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to 9J.
  23. Install the left side lower trim panel. Refer to Section 8C.
  24. Connect the negative battery cable.

Inspection Procedure

Inspect the park/lock control cable for functional operation. If the below conditions are met, the system is properly adjusted:

    • Place the shift lever in the P (Park) position. Place the key in the LOCK position. Ensure that you cannot move the shifter lever to another position. The ignition key should be removable from the column.
    • Place the key in the RUN position. Place the shift lever in N (Neutral) position. Make sure that you cannot turn the key to the LOCK position.
