Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  3. Remove the center air duct. Refer to Section 8C.
  4. Remove the accessory trim plate cover. Refer to Section 8C.

  6. Remove the console lower retaining screws.

  7. Object Number: 13684  Size: SH
  8. Remove the park/neutral position switch.

  9. Object Number: 13698  Size: SH
  10. Remove the shift and park lock cables.

  11. Object Number: 13708  Size: SH
  12. Remove the shift control retaining bolts from the shift control.
  13. Disconnect the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid electrical connector.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the BTSI solenoid electrical connector.

  2. Object Number: 13708  Size: SH
  3. Install the automatic transmission shift control retaining bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the shift and park lock cables.

  6. Object Number: 13684  Size: SH
  7. Install the park/neutral position switch and the retaining screws.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  9. Adjust the position switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Backup Switch Replacement

  10. Object Number: 13686  Size: SH
  11. Install the lower retaining screws to the console.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 8 N·m (73 lb in).

  13. Install the accessory trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  14. Install the center air duct. Refer to Section 8C.
  15. Install the console trim plate. Refer to Section 8C.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
