Battery Cable Positive

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery.
  3. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the underhood relay/fuse block connector.

  5. Remove the battery hold down and bolt.
  6. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the battery heat shield push-in retainers.
  8. Remove the battery heat shield.

  10. Remove the upper clips from the battery cables.
  11. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General information.
  12. Remove the RH HO2S from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

  14. Remove the lower clip from the battery cables.

  15. Object Number: 197627  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the positive battery cable and nut from the starter motor.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 197627  Size: SH
  4. Connect the positive battery cable and nut to the starter motor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the lower clip to the battery cables.
  7. Install the RH HO2S to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 201660  Size: SH
  10. Install the upper clips to the battery cables.

  11. Object Number: 74060  Size: SH
  12. Install the battery to the vehicle.
  13. Install the battery hold down and bolt.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the battery hold down bolt to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  15. Install the battery heat shield.
  16. Install the battery heat shield push-in retainers.

  18. Connect the positive battery cable to the underhood relay/fuse block connector.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable to the underhood relay/fuse block connector nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  20. Connect the positive cable to the battery.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  22. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  3. Remove the battery heat shield from the vehicle.

  5. Remove the upper clips from the battery cables.

  6. Object Number: 74072  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable ground lead from the RH frame rail.
  8. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General information.

  10. Remove the lower clip from the battery cables.

  11. Object Number: 197628  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the engine block.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the negative battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle.

  4. Connect the negative battery cable to the engine block.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  15. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
