Battery Is Undercharge or Overcharged

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a DMM between the generator connector terminal B and ground.

Is the battery voltage greater than the specified value?

0 V

Go to Step 2

Move the DMM from terminal B to the generator BAT terminal on the generator (red wire).

Is the voltage more than specified value?

0 V

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Check for an open in CKT 225 between the generator terminal B and the powertrain control module (PCM).

Does an open exists?

Go to Engine Controls Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect the generator connector.
  2. Run the engine at fast idle with all of the accessories OFF.
  3. Connect a DMM across the battery terminals.

Is the reading within the specified value?

13.5-15.5V

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Check for an open in CKT 2 (red) between the generator BAT terminal and the battery.

Is the repair complete?

Recheck System Operation

  1. Load test the generator. Refer to generator Load Test.
  2. Replace the generator if necessary. Refer to Generator Replacement Procedure.

Is generator OK?

Go to Parasitic Load Test
