This gasoline engine exhaust system is equipped with 2 three way catalytic converters, located between the exhaust manifolds and the exhaust mufflers. Each catalytic converter is a separate unit, mounted in combination with the takedown and intermediate exhaust pipes. The catalytic converters are emission control devices that reduce emissions of the following gases:

    • Hydrocarbons
    • Carbon Monoxide
    • Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)

The catalytic converter contains a honeycomb network coated with a catalytic material containing platinum and rhodium. The catalytic material promotes the burning or oxidation of the oxidants as the exhaust gases pass through the catalytic converter towards the tailpipe.

The catalytic converter requires the use of unleaded gas in order to perform the following functions:

    • Reduce combustion chamber deposits
    • Reduce spark plug fouling
    • Prevent lead contamination of the catalytic converter, resulting in premature failure and the loss of emission system warranty coverage
