Tighten the flanges at the leaking connections to the correct specifications.

Has the leakage stopped?

System OK

Go to Step 3

Check for a burned or a blown-out muffler.

Is either of the mufflers burned or blown out?

Go to Step 4

Replace the muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement.

Are there still exhaust noises?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Check the exhaust pipe at the exhaust manifold flange.

Is the flange leaking?

Go to Step 6

System OK

  1. Replace the exhaust manifold as necessary. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  2. Tighten the retaining bolts to specifications.

Are there still exhaust noises?

Go to Step 7

System OK

Check to see if the exhaust manifold is cracked or broken.

Is the exhaust manifold cracked or broken?

Go to Step 8

Repair or replace the exhaust manifold as necessary. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

Are there still exhaust noises?

Go to Step 9

Check for a leak between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.

Is there a leak between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head?

Go to Step 10

System OK

Tighten the bolts between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head to specifications.

Are there still exhaust noises?
