Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28458 Power Piston Seal Protector and Diaphragm Retainer Installer


    Object Number: 173659  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the RH muffler assembly. Refer to Muffler in Engine Exhaust.
  3. Remove the transmission oil pan and the filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the transmission harness 20 - way connector from the transmission internal harness pass-thorugh connector.
  5. Depress both tabs on the connector and pull straight up; do not pry the connector.

  6. Remove the 1-2 accumulator cover bolts.

  7. Object Number: 71462  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 1-2 accumulator cover.
  9. Remove the 1-2 accumulator cover piston.
  10. Remove the 1-2 accumulator inner and outer springs.

  12. Disconnect the component electrical connectors.
  13. Remove the TCC PWM solenoid retainer.
  14. Remove the TCC PWM solenoid from the control valve body.

  16. Remove the pressure control solenoid retainer bolt.

  17. Object Number: 13880  Size: SH
  18. Remove the pressure control solenoid retainer.
  19. Remove the pressure control solenoid from the control valve body.

  21. Remove the TCC solenoid bolts and the wiring harness bolts.

  23. Use the J 28458 to remove the pass-through electrical connector from the transmission case.
  24. 16.1. Use the small end of the J 28458 over the top of the connector.
    16.2. Twist in order to release the four tabs.
    16.3. Pull the harness connector down through the transmission case.
  25. Remove the TCC solenoid with O-ring seal and the wiring harness from the transmission case.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 71463  Size: SH
  1. Install the wiring harness, the TCC solenoid and the O-ring seal.
  2. Install the pass-through electrical connector to the transmission case.

  3. Object Number: 29492  Size: SH
  4. Install the wiring harness bolts and the TCC solenoid bolts.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the transmission internal wiring harness retaining bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
        • Tighten the TCC solenoid retaining bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the pressure control solenoid to the control valve body.
  7. Install the pressure control solenoid retainer.

  8. Object Number: 13876  Size: SH
  9. Install the pressure control solenoid retainer bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure control solenoid retaining bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  11. Install the TCC PWM solenoid to the control valve body.
  12. Install the TCC PWM solenoid retainer.
  13. Connect the component electrical connectors.

  14. Object Number: 71462  Size: SH
  15. Install the 1-2 accumulator inner and outer springs to the piston.
  16. Install the 1-2 accumulator piston to the accumulator cover.
  17. Ensure that the 1-2 accumulator piston legs face toward the accumulator cover.

  18. Install the 1-2 accumulator cover and bolts.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the 1-2 accumulator cover bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  20. Connect the transmission harness 20 - way connector to the transmission pass-through connector.
  21. Align the arrows on each half of the connector and insert straight down.

  22. Install the transmission oil pan and filter. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .
  23. Install the RH muffler assembly. Refer to Muffler in Engine Exhaust.
  24. Lower the vehicle.
