Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 179036  Size: SH
  1. Remove the heater/evaporator module. Refer to Heater/Evaporator Module Assembly .
  2. Remove and discard air inlet, drain, and plumbing seals from heater/evaporator module.

  3. Object Number: 181026  Size: SH
  4. Remove the heater/defrost valve actuator from the heater/evaporator module.
  5. Remove the passenger side temperature door motor (2) from the heater/evaporator module if equipped with CJ2.
  6. Remove the passenger side vacuum actuator (1).

  7. Object Number: 144109  Size: SH
  8. Remove the upper heater/evaporator module screws.
  9. Important: Becareful when separating the upper and lower heater/evaporator module halves, there is a snap clip (1) that holds the halves together.

  10. Separate the upper and lower heater/evaporator module halves.
  11. Remove and discard the heater/evaporator module seal.

  13. Remove the evaporator core from the heater/evaporator module.
  14. Remove and discard the lower evaporator core seals.

  15. Object Number: 144106  Size: SH
  16. Remove and discard the side evaporator seal.

  17. Object Number: 144104  Size: SH
  18. Remove and discard the upper evaporator core seal.

  19. Object Number: 144102  Size: SH
  20. Remove and discard the water core filter from the evaporator core.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 144102  Size: SH
  1. Install a new water core filter onto the evaporator core.

  2. Object Number: 144104  Size: SH
  3. Install a new upper evaporator core seal.

  4. Object Number: 144106  Size: SH
  5. Install a new side evaporator core seal.
  6. Line the seal up at the corners of the evaporator core.

  7. Install two new lower evaporator core seals.
  8. Locate the seals at the outer edges of the evaporator core.

  9. Install the evaporator core into the heater/evaporator module.

  10. Object Number: 179210  Size: SH
  11. Install a new heater/evaporator module seal.

  12. Object Number: 144109  Size: SH
  13. Check the snap clip (1) prior to assembling the heater/evaporator module halves.
  14. If the clip is broken, install the replacement the clip.

  15. Assemble the upper and lower heater/evaporator module halves.
  16. Install the upper heater/evaporator module screws.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the upper heater/evaporator module screws to 1.6 N·m (14 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  18. Install the passenger side temperature door motor (2) onto the heater/evaporator module if equipped with CJ2.
  19. Install the passenger side vacuum actuator (1) onto the heater/evaporator module.
  20. Connect the heater/defroster valve actuator to the heater/evaporator module.

  21. Object Number: 179036  Size: SH
  22. Install new air inlet, drain, and plumbing seals onto the heater/evaporator module.
  23. Install the heater/evaporator module into the vehicle. Refer to Heater/Evaporator Module Assembly .
