Windshield Wiper Motor Inoperative (All Modes)

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON Position.
  2. Backprobe the wiper/washer switch connector C209 with a test light between terminal C and a good ground.

Did the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 2

Go to Step 5

  1. Keep the ignition switch in the ON position.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to LO.
  3. Connect a jumper wire from the motor to an external ground.

Does the wiper motor operate?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Repair the open in CKT 150.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Wiper/Washer System Check

Replace the windshield wiper motor.

Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Assembly Replacement.

Is the replacement complete?

--

Go to Wiper/Washer System Check

Check 25 Amp WSW fuse for an open circuit.

Is the fuse open?

--

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 6

Repair the open in CKT 143 between the fuse block and the windshield wiper/washer switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Wiper/Washer System Check

  1. Remove the blown fuse.
  2. Connect an ammeter (0-30 AMP) across the fuse block terminals.
  3. Operate the windshield wiper motor.

Is the amperage in the specified range?

25 A or above

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the connector from the wiper motor.
  2. Replace the WSW fuse.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Actuate the wiper/washer switch several times.
  5. Check the WSW fuse.

Is the fuse open?

Go to Step 9

Replace the windshield wiper motor.

Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Assembly Replacement.

Is the replacement complete?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 143

Is the repair complete?

Replace the blown fuse
